Desert Life

I’m back. We took a mini vacation to Laughlin, Nevada. It was for a summer picnic at the river for my dad’s job. So they took us all. We got back home around dinner time today. Traveling is always hard on the body; we’re so glad to be back home.
Chloe had her first sleepover while we were on vacation. She did FABULOUS! She was perfectly fine. So she didn’t do just one night – she showed off and did two nights of sleepovers. I still want her to get used to the idea so we are going to have her spend the night at least once a month. I guess I’ll have a free night once a month; I’m not going to know what to do with myself.
Chloe had an absolute ball at the river. She had so much fun. She wanted to go back in the water again and again. I’m glad. I want her to be a strong swimmer. Every summer my parents put me through swimming classes, along with going swimming almost every weekend in the summer, and I’m grateful for that. I’ll have tons of pictures, hopefully late tomorrow.
The picnic was nice. I was looking out to the river, at all the kids having fun in the water and was thinking it would make a nice vacation spot (although not in mid-July when the temperature was in the 110’s) when our kids are older and maybe we won’t ever get a boat, but maybe a jet ski for the kids to ride and have fun on. That’s when my husband, looking out at the water and all the kids having fun, leaned over to me and said, “I’m never going to want a boat or a jet ski.”
(Side note: I knew, even when I was daydreaming that my husband would never do the whole vacation with a boat/jet ski with the kids. I just found it funny that as I was thinking those things he reminded me of that.)
This was the first time I have been to Laughlin. I’ve been to Vegas several times and have been wanting to go to Laughlin just to experience it. I figured it would the same as Vegas. Not really. Not to knock our vacation, but Vegas is way better. Everything in Vegas is done with glamour and grandure. Laughlin had a couple of nice casinos, but that’s all it was, a river and a couple of okay casinos. Vegas does everything up really big and larger than life. So for future vacations to the extremely hot desert – Vegas.
Getting away was nice. But it’s back to the real world. I’m trying to catch up on blogs and everyone’s news (hopefully there was a lot of big news while I was gone). This week I have a proposal to write. I’m so nervous. We’re having a meeting with our boss on Thursday and we’re going to be asking for a raise for all of the editors. *fingerscrossed* that this goes through. We’re all doing research on salaries and what we do for the company and I’ll be writing everything up. I’m stressed, but I have hope.
Pictures tomorrow. You’re going to love it; I would say to come by here just to see my husband’s “beachwear,” which is the most fun, second only to my very cute daughter.
